DGCA permission for a drone shoot in Delhi NCR

The permit decides your timeline far more often than the kit does. Here is the honest position before you book.

Yellow zone — most of Delhi NCR

Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Faridabad and Ghaziabad sit in controlled airspace under the Digital Sky framework. Commercial flights need prior clearance. We file NPNT permits in-house and need 7–14 days notice. Plan the permit before the call sheet, not after.

Permit-exempt — nano category

The DJI Mini 4 Pro weighs under 249 g, which puts it in the nano category and outside the permit requirement. It is the only realistic option when the shoot date falls inside the 7–14 day filing window. 4K HDR, 34-minute flight time.

Red zone — refused

Airspace around IGI Airport, Hindon airbase and military installations is red zone. No permit is available and we will not fly there. If your location falls inside one, we will tell you at the enquiry stage rather than on the day.

Green zone — Ranchi & Jharkhand

For contrast: Ranchi and most of Jharkhand is green-zone airspace, so commercial drone shoots there need no permit at all. Same fleet, same rates, no lead time. See the Ranchi and Delhi fleet page for that side.

Which drone for which shoot

Real estate & developer marketing

Air 3S at ₹2,000 is the default — 1-inch wide for the establishing shot and a 3x tele for compressed elevation detail without a second flight. Covers sector layouts across Gurgaon, Noida, Greater Noida and Faridabad. Step up to the Mavic 3 Pro where the footage will be graded.

TVC & brand film aerial

Inspire 3 at ₹12,500 — 8K full-frame, ProRes RAW, interchangeable LPL/DL glass, so aerial cuts against ARRI and RED ground units without a colour mismatch. Book the dual-operator rig for moves where the camera has to work independently of the flight path.

Cinema bodies in the air

Freefly Alta X at ₹20,000 lifts up to 17 kg — a RED, ARRI or BMPCC build with lens and gimbal. Flight time is 15–25 minutes depending on payload, so the schedule is built around battery swaps.

FPV, interiors & chase

Avata 2 at ₹3,000 flies stairwells, corridors and tight walk-throughs a conventional airframe cannot, at up to 97 km/h. Pilot-dependent work — book it with a certified operator.

Weddings & events

Mavic 3 Pro at ₹3,500 for venue reveals and processions across NCR. Venue airspace is checked before the date; many Delhi and Gurgaon banquet locations sit in yellow zone and need the same 7–14 day clearance.

Construction & site survey

Air 3S or Mavic 3 Pro for progress documentation and elevation surveys on NCR sites. Repeat monthly schedules are quoted at a retainer rather than day rate.

05

Drone rental in Delhi NCR — questions

Do I need DGCA permission to fly a drone in Delhi NCR?

For almost all of Delhi NCR, yes. The region sits in yellow-zone airspace under the Digital Sky framework, which means commercial flights need prior clearance. We file NPNT permits in-house and ask for 7–14 days notice. The one exception is the DJI Mini 4 Pro: at under 249 g it is a nano-category airframe and does not require a permit, which is why it is the fastest option for a short-notice shoot. Red-zone flights near airports or military installations are refused — no permit exists for those.

How much does it cost to rent a drone in Delhi NCR?

Airframes run ₹1,500 to ₹20,000 per day: DJI Mini 4 Pro ₹1,500, Air 3S ₹2,000, Avata 2 FPV ₹3,000, Mavic 3 Pro ₹3,500, Mavic 3 Cine ₹5,000, Inspire 3 ₹12,500 and the heavy-lift Freefly Alta X ₹20,000. A DGCA-certified pilot is ₹5,000 per day, or ₹8,000 for a dual-operator rig where a second person runs the gimbal. Permit filing is included in the pilot day rate. Rates match our Ranchi pricing — NCR delivery is not charged extra within the ring-road cities.

Do you provide a DGCA-licensed drone pilot in Delhi?

Yes. Every airframe can be booked with a certified remote pilot at ₹5,000 per day. For cinema aerial where the camera move has to be independent of the flight path, book the dual-operator rig at ₹8,000 — one pilot flying, one operator on the gimbal. Pilots carry their remote pilot certificate on set, and the airframes are DGCA-registered with valid UINs, which is what a location permission or a production insurer will ask to see.

Which drone should I hire for a real estate shoot in Gurgaon or Noida?

The DJI Air 3S at ₹2,000 per day is the usual answer — dual camera with a 1-inch wide and a 3x telephoto, so you get both the establishing wide and compressed elevation detail without a second flight. Step up to the Mavic 3 Pro at ₹3,500 for developer-grade marketing where the footage will be graded, or the Mini 4 Pro at ₹1,500 if the site sits somewhere the permit timeline is tight. All three fly the sector layouts across Gurgaon, Noida, Greater Noida and Faridabad.

Can you fly a RED or ARRI cinema camera on a drone?

Yes — that is what the Freefly Alta X is for. It lifts up to 17 kg, which covers a RED, an ARRI or a BMPCC build with lens and gimbal. Flight time is 15–25 minutes depending on payload, so schedules are built around battery swaps rather than continuous flying. At ₹20,000 per day plus pilot it is the heavy-lift tier, booked for features and national TVCs. For 8K aerial without the payload overhead, the Inspire 3 at ₹12,500 is the more practical choice.

Can I get an FPV drone for an indoor or chase sequence in Delhi?

Yes. The DJI Avata 2 at ₹3,000 per day is the cinematic FPV airframe — 377 g, 4K 60fps 10-bit, and up to 97 km/h for chase and reveal shots. It flies interiors, stairwells and tight walk-through sequences that a conventional airframe cannot. FPV work is pilot-dependent, so book it with a certified operator; indoor flights within an enclosed private property generally sit outside the permit regime, but we confirm that per location before the shoot day.

How fast can you get a drone on set in Delhi NCR?

The airframe itself ships same day across Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Faridabad and Ghaziabad, and reaches Karnal or Chandigarh on 24-hour notice. The constraint is the permit, not the kit: yellow-zone clearance needs 7–14 days. If the shoot date is inside that window, the DJI Mini 4 Pro is the workable option because nano-category airframes are permit-exempt. Tell us the location and date and we will say plainly whether the timeline is achievable.

Are your drones registered, and is the footage insured?

All airframes are DGCA-registered with valid UINs, and pilots hold current remote pilot certificates. For equipment cover you can either use your own production insurance rider — we provide invoices and serial numbers for the schedule — or take our in-house cover at 2–4% of rental value per day, which covers accidental damage, theft and transit loss. Flyaway caused by flying outside the cleared zone is not covered by either.
